A moment of priceless reflection. And oh, to have captured it on camera! I still hear myself draw in and hold a deep breath just glancing at it. Because this, {to the untrained eye} is the exact moment before sweet baby slumber.
Its hinted suggestion of what is to come is grander to me then hoisting the Stanley Cup or winning the Super Bowl. Because after a year…yes, I said a YEAR of getting 2-3 hour rounds of sleep each night, our Mr. Man is finally sleeping better. However it still doesn’t come easily. On this balmy night above, it took a long walk to earn this accolade.
I’d greedily taken advantage of having my first baby sleep so well. We took glorious, hours-long snoozes every day. And then, by 6pm sharp she was off to bed for another 12 hours. So I rightly assumed that after the first 3 months or so our little man would follow suit. Lets just say I couldn’t have stood more corrected.
And stand I did, because he wanted nothing else then to be swaddled, bobbed and held. Add in a nasty case of reflux and he was simply so miserable and overtired. And so were we. And there was nothing to do but leave our brains to sleep deprivation and hope to make it through. Oh I searched every book on the matter. But {unfortunately} he simply fell into the category of babies that needed to just “grow out of it”.
Thankfully, it appears he has. {Still holding my breath on that one.} And even more thankfully, our brain-fogged minds didn’t make too many mistakes in their compromised state. We are grateful for those that helped us out as we went through our sleep deprived stupidity. That and the quick pic of a stroll to help us always remember just how precious sleeping babies really can be.

My 1st spoiled me by sleeping through the night by day 3. Baby #2 had colic. Baby #3 had night terrors begin around year 1. Baby #4 has never slept well at night but is 6 and still takes afternoon naps. Baby #5 has never slept through the night and never naps at 2. They are each so different. Love that you caught that precious moment. He is a cutie!

ahhhh! I’m so glad to hear he’s sleeping better! I completely know and feel your pain, as #1 was a horrid sleeper up until about…18 months. yikes!

He is…finally! I think its also because the kid has four teeth now and can officially start eating me out house and home. Whatever it is, I like it! 😀

Oh my. What a picture! I love capturing my kids in all sorts of moods, and the sleepy eyes are my favorite ones for the photo books.
