A few weeks ago I took on creating a “simple” service project with Champions For Kids. And under the featured SIMPLE service project theme to “Help Them Thrive” I began the collection for donating to a local homeless shelter. Champions For Kids is a non-profit organization aimed at “mobilizing millions” to help the children in our communities. And with a history of volunteering and loving to help others, I jumped in with both feet!
Every month has a theme and a generous brand sponsor. This month, the sponsor was DIAL. I don’t think it could get any better then to get to assist others AND give a gift that smells great at the same time. I was really impressed with the Dial brand selection, you can see more of how I shopped for my personal service project at Walmart by checking out my Google Plus album {Fill an Empty Bowl: Homeless Shelter Donation Ideas #DialCFK}.
For this service project, its quick to point out that basic toiletries cost very little. In fact, all my donations for this project were monetary. It was easy to ask people I knew to just give a dollar or two to help this cause. Sure, I would have LOVED to gather hundreds or thousands of dollars. But efforts to help don’t need to be a BIG or nothing aspect. My service project is indeed a “simple” one. But after visiting a Dollar Store today, I’ll add 35 Dial soaps toward my donation to the SOS Community Services.
A local community based non-profit, SOS Community Services strives to help end homelessness. They are also a lead agency providing services to homeless families, individuals; And as in the focus of my project, children and youth.
Children are the most vulnerable and least visible victims of homelessness…During times of uncertainty, SOS provides children with familiar and safe environments in which to learn, play and grow. We have programs for children in preschool, school-age, and support for parents. ~SOS Community Services
They also have a great list on 10 Ways to Help in your own community as you branch out on your own Champions For Kids “Dial Into Giving” service project. Because regardless of how much you can donate, being able to be join the millions of mobilized individuals is an amazing contribution. Thanks for the link to the ’10 ways you can help’. Sometimes is can be hard to find the right way to give in your own area when you’re not a native.
