There will be many things that I accomplish in my life. But none of them were as harrowing for me as giving birth. For me, pregnancy is a high-risk situation with a c-section ending. Add in the daily blood-thinner shots to sustain each pregnancy and its one stressful expectation period.
With multiple losses before her, Isabel was an 18+ hour pitocin fueled labor sans meds; All for the hope of a “natural” birth. That was not the case as her little butt was determined to stay as far away from the action as possible. Thus she was born healthy and happy {that is all that matters} via a guilt-induced cesarean section and subsequent {horrific} medication overload.
Momma’s little man, Otis was an absolute surprise from the first pee stick. We never quite had his dates right I’d wager. And he always kept us jumping as much as he loved to tumble in-utero. A scheduled c-section this time, it was as much a “better” experience as I could have hoped for. However popping a stitch, sleep deprivation and juggling two high-need children has been an adventure in and of itself. But that is another story for a different time.
How about you? What is the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
