I think every adult reading this can agree that life gets us so busy. We have our lives, homes, kids, cars, and jobs to manage. Plus I’m finding as I get older, that if I don’t plan for things they simply don’t happen. And even then, I have learned the difference between “planned” and “scheduled”. If you want to know the difference, I’ll point you at the stockpile of unused holiday baking supplies still waiting in my pantry.
But for me, having two kids under 4 with a husband working 6 days a week and a budding blog? I’m utterly swamped. So when I find great books with tips or tricks to integrating romance into my life I’m ecstatic to give it a look. And when I mention “romance”, I don’t just mean a great date, but the kind of romance that makes every day beautiful. And what better place to find home entertaining inspiration then from a lifestyle and romance expert?
I’ve always believed that luxury can be found in so many layers. And so many budgets, as evidenced with a recent in-store search for just such a book by Moll Anderson {Shopping for Moll Anderson’s new book!}. She just released her latest title called “Seductive Tablescapes for Two” and I am thrilled to have gotten it. You’ll find its filled with ideas on table arrangements, amazing photographs, helpful hints, fun tips, and personal stories to make this book entertaining cover-to-cover. It has some glorious dishes for you to drool over. And I was positively delighted that Miss Anderson included a tutorial on place settings and stemware.
Personally, I have designed our home in a functional fashion. Well, that and a child-proofed one, which I can admit gets a bit too plain. In fact, we don’t even own a conventional dining table, but rather a huge desk. It fits our tiny abode better and includes a square bookcase that doubles as our sideboard. So it’s with this in mind that we chose our coffee table.
An uber-functional oval design, its great for both traditional sofa support as well as an a-la-cart dining experience. And this is where Moll Anderson’s ideas on tablescapes, picnics, and recipes really inspired me. I pulled out a storage basket and christened it with a new purpose to hold our picnic treasures. I tossed in some cloth placemats, dinner-sized napkins, potpourri and scented flowers, as well as tea light candles and various specialty glasses. Though I had this all in the house already, now these items have a collaborated purpose.
And since the only leisure I have these days is called nap-time, I wanted to make sure that my a-la-cart picnic would be just that. I will always want easy things to pop on the table. Such as a lunch with kumato caprice sandwiches or a stay-home date showcasing wine and cheese. And my utter favorite way to make any day special is serving a breakfast or brunch.
Nothing gets easier for me then adorning a table with a stack of croissants and a bowl of fruit. And really, is there anything more romantic then drinking champagne cocktails with it? Add in a plate of chocolate filled biscuit cookies and I think I’ve entered heaven in 5 minutes flat. Plus, I always have orange juice and lemons in the house so those totally complete my impromptu tablescape. What do you think?

And there you have it! Just a note too, for those that don’t want champagne at breakfast, simply use your favorite sparkling water as an alternative. Traditionally you’ll also find that Shirley Temple mocktails are made with a lemon-lime soda. So that would work for you as well. Its your table you’re creating, make it as seductive as you wish!
