Welcome to The Daily Dine, a smorgasbord collective to help me celebrate each day 1250 ways. Highlight for today? My first day on Nutrisystem!
You got it! I’m getting my butt {and life} back on the healthy bandwagon! And while a sprained ankle may hamper my Couch-to-5k efforts, this chef-style women’s plan is full of great foods to keep me on track. Today’s menu features:
- Chocolate Glazed Donut
- Three Cheese Chicken
- Chicken Pot Pie
- Apple & Peanut Butter
And first up…breakfast! My day started out with a {yummy} coffee protein shake. Mixed with water and ice, I blended it until it resembled a frappe. Then I picked out my pantry item, a Chocolate Glazed {cake} Donut! Yes, I think I fell in love with Nutrisystem right there and then. Want a hint? Microwave this breakfast treat for about 10-15 seconds.
So I was happily full after breakfast. And then the kids decided to treat me further with an awesome nap. Which I do recall that getting some extra shut-eye can help with weight loss right? {Win!} We got up and went straight for lunch.
For today, I picked the Three Cheese Chicken. At first I was amazed at how much broccoli it had since the Nutrisystem stock picture didn’t appear to have much. Its probably just the random allotment per lunch cup. That said, and despite my broccoli apprehension, I was amazed. The broth hints just enough cheese to balance the veggies and I was impressed that the chicken consisted of all white meat. Pretty much licked the bowl clean.
And since I pretty much slept through my morning snack I coupled it with my afternoon snack. Despite reading up on it, I’ll still need to research my PowerFuel and SmartCarb options. But for today, I tried to play it safe and combined 1 tablespoon of organic peanut butter with a medium sized organic apple. Hunger check? Full and satisfied!
The day was crazy busy and my lack of my typical sugar and caffeine today swamped me by dinner time. I knew I’d be pairing back on the substitute energy boosts but today was especially taxing. Namely since I’d forgotten to pick up my favorite sugar, Xylitol. {Which meant less coffee.} AND because my darling daughter decided to play with the refrigerator controls. Hello frozen lettuce – goodbye dinner salad.
So I hunted through my goodies for something that wouldn’t really need a salad to pair with it anyhow. And I decided the Chicken Pot Pie would fill me up just fine. Opening the box I was impressed that the pot pie mixture was crust-less save for a flaky pastry to be heated on top during the last 15 seconds of microwaved cooking time. Thick and hearty, I was thankful for this comfort food.
And there you have it! I ran out of course to get another mixed bag of romaine and iceburg lettuce for a light salad after dinner. And my dessert for the day? Oh! I relished a Thin Mint Crisp Bar. Pictures just can’t do it justice…but if I get one with the next bar, I’ll make sure to update this post.
Hope you enjoyed this post for The Daily Dine. Be on the look out for more great eats as I take you along to savor the random calories a day can cook up. Till next time!
