This #SkinnyLimits juice cleanse post has been made possible by May Media Group LLC and their client. But don’t let the “skinny” fool you…read on to see how I did!
Over the years I’ve slowly progressed in learning more about eating better. Whether that was organic produce, non-gmo foods, or just hormone-free dairy; I’ve slowly discovered the benefits of each. But one thing I could yet stomach to do? I couldn’t not fathom drinking green juice. That is…until now.
I’ve dabbled in raw food cookbooks just long enough to know that I love all the desserts. {I’m now a lover of all things no-bake.} However, I knew well enough that I’d missed the point of eating more food in the raw. And as far as “juicing” went, I experimented with smoothies and stock OJ in the fridge. But I’d never really dabbled much further, because well…there was the green aspect. But I’ve felt the need for a good cleanse and this seemed the perfect choice for me. I’ve also been attempting to clean the wheat out of our home and pantry, so the juices being gluten free were also a bonus.
Sure I know its great for you. Wheatgrass is amazing stuff so I hear, but I am SO not a fan. That didn’t leave much to try afterwards since it seems all the mainstream green juice drinks have it. So when I got the chance to do a 3-day Skinny Limits juice cleanse, the first thing I looked at was if they used wheatgrass. Much to my delight, they only utilize the following in the standard juice cleanse.
- Pure & Simple: Kale, Cucumber, Spinach, Parsley, Celery, Apple, Lemon.
- Balance: Kale, Cucumber, Spinach, Parsley, Celery, Ginger, Apple, Lemon.
- Scorpion Lemonade: Lemons, Filtered Water, Cayenne Pepper, Agave Nectar.
- Crescent Moon: Raw cashews, Vanilla Bean, Filtered Water, Cinnamon, Agave Nectar.
So I aimed to put my fear behind me and signed up to discover just how a juice cleanse would be like. And I gotta say, I’m hooked – line and sinker. A day on this standard cleanse consists of 6, 16oz bottles of cold-pressed raw food juice {you get 18 total}. Of which, they are so fresh they are delivered overnight and have a shelf life of only 3 days. And let me advise you – plan on spending the first day at home.
After a cup of hot water and lemon you’ll start your day with the green juice, Pure & Simple. And it is just that, pure – simple – and so much better then any other green juice I’ve ever sampled. You’ll have three of this juice blend, of which I really liked the cucumber in it. And my two-year-old son, gulped down half in seconds and eagerly wanted more. Personally, I preferred the Pure & Simple over the Balance green juice only because I’m not a fan of Ginger. But in the end, you’ll only have one Balance each day – so nothing I couldn’t handle.
But that aside, the remaining two juices that you’ll have one per day are the Scorpion Lemonade and the Crescent Moon. These two set your taste-buds dancing I tell you! After this I’ll always want to put Cayenne in my lemonade in some fashion. A big fan of lemonade, I really loved the simple, sweet {yet slightly spicy} juice that felt like a treat at this point. Except of course, I found it does anything but cool you down. Lets just say I found my metabolism by this point and it was like HELLO!
That leaves the last juice of the day, which ironically does note that it is in fact not a juice at all. It should rather be labeled “Nectar of the Gods”. Because the Crescent Moon is divine. I absolutely loved it! You’ll drink this final juice about two hours before bed and I could seriously have it every night. I have to say it was my ultimate fave, and I’ll never taste another cashew without remembering how spectacular they are when cold-pressed.
Advice to newbies like me…
- Overcoming green juice phobia. You’ll drink four green juices each day. And for me, there is simply something about the color that repels me. I used a colored, covered cold cup and it made the process a whole lot easier.
- Electrolyte water. I don’t care what brand of electrolyte water you favor, but I’d highly recommend you having it on hand. You’ll be drinking a ton of water both leading up to and during the cleanse. For me, it really made a big difference.
- Listen to your body! Speaking of a difference, everyone will detox differently. Some only have a headache…my body revolted. I lost 10 pounds the first day. TEN pounds. I ended the day feeling exhausted and that is with eating a small meal when I felt faint. So I took a day off eating only small light meals and drinking lots of water. I then attempted to do another day on what should have been my third consecutive day. I still needed light meals, but lost another two pounds for a total lost in three days of 12 pounds. I didn’t do this for weight loss but rather the actual cleanse aspect. So for my next venture in juice cleanses, I’ll just plan on one day.
- Plan a light menu for the days following your juice cleanse. I didn’t want more then healthy snacks all day following my experience. And I was thankful for planning on soups and after about a week, I was back up to three standard meals a day. However, my stomach definitely shrank. And I found that I continued to lose weight for a total of 16 pounds in one week.
- Don’t let the “skinny” in Skinny Limits fool you. This isn’t about losing weight and most people do not lose weight like I did. Do this for the added intestinal benefit, and it is a great way to jump-start a new menu plan or in my case, wheat/gluten-free living.
