How do you celebrate Mother’s Day? Quite honestly, I never really know exactly how to give this day its due. Because we’re often not just celebrating one Mom…but all the amazing Mom’s we know and love. Friends, neighbors, co-workers, grandparents…the list can be far bigger then most people budget. Not only that, but this is the one day to continue giving the homemade gifts she’s loved so much over the years.
So what do I do? I head to Walmart. I’ve recently discovered that Hallmark has taken over the card aisle now! I don’t know about you…but gifting Hallmark cards, gifts, and holiday merchandise has always been a luxury I adore. And now, I can afford to share it even more with Connections from Hallmark {only at Walmart}.
And just last week, I went online and signed up for the Hallmark Card Rewards program. With both a smartphone app as well as ways to redeem your card purchases online, earning rewards is a snap. Plus I’ve also been able to sync my existing Hallmark Crown Rewards membership to redeem rewards from in-store Hallmark purchases as well. For every 5 cards I buy, I’ll receive 1 reward. I can choose things like gift cards, discounts, or dollars off…all for buying what I already intended to.
So what simple heart-felt gift was I making this year? A glass mug filled w/aromatic coffee beans and a hazelnut candle. My Mother-In-Law loves coffee, loves candles, and simply loves Hallmark. So off to Walmart I went. Once there I had a wall of great cards to choose from. Since the two of us have an ornery penchant for slathering the other in glittery gifts, I always look for the one that sparkles the most. I also picked up a card for the kids to give her as well.
Next up…I ventured towards Housewares to search for glass coffee mugs. I also found bright green dotted burlap and a bright colored embroidery twine in the craft section. No glue needed. I would cut the burlap strip to fit and then wrap {and tie} the twine around it. I found the coffee inspired candles easily, and bought both a votive for my mug and wickless melts scented in a wide range of hazelnut, lattes, and vanilla.
And Mother’s Day isn’t the same with flower right? Not too long ago I found the cutest little mini-bouquets in the cooler of a local market. The perfect size to carry and gift, they also set right into a pint jar or small juice glass for water. Meaning they can be placed easily on a desk or table to enjoy. I adore them and at half the cost of a normal bouquet, so does my pocketbook.
So you’ve got your Hallmark cards, cute thinking-of-you gift, and flowers. What’s left for that special Mom in your life? Why sweet baked desserts of course! Normally I love to bake our own. But this year I found an awesome package of sugar cookies at Walmart to include instead. As an accent, I just tied a few up with some leftover hemp twine and packed them into the gift bag.
