If you haven’t already guessed…I kind of love coffee. And one of my favorite things about the holiday season? Its like a perpetual coffee hour! I mean come on, we’re talking foodie central for a solid two months. And what is better to pair with great food, then awesome coffee drinks with friends and family?
With a big family, I always loved finding a day-long progressive dinner welcoming us. And to each, there is always a great cup of coffee waiting. Well, that and all those amazing round-robin foodie tours this time of year. And even then, walking to each new restaurant, guess what we often find ourselves chatting it up over? You guessed it. Coffee.
And here’s a simple way to make the holidays happy in your own home or family gathering. I love utilizing fun, easy ingredients to toss into my coffee drinks. And since Walmart keeps my pantry stocked with coffee, caramel, chocolate and cool whip? Well…feast your eyes on this.
To know me, is to know that I love strong, bold coffee. And when your not dealing w/espresso while mixing up your coffee drinks? Do yourself a favor and go bold. This is a nice new blend by Maxwell House that seems made for coffee mixologists this time of year! Meaning, you’ll be able to drink your dessert and still taste the coffee too.
So, to get started? Unwrap a Kraft caramel and toss it into the bottom of your mug. What a classic golden treat isn’t it? And I’ve found its the perfect addition to lightly sweetening my coffee. Another pantry favorite? Bakers Chocolate. Not just for shaving or candy molds – we love the “dipping chocolate” as well. And when we aren’t coating every fruit we buy in chocolate…I of course put it in my coffee. {LOL}
Now that you’ve tossed in the sweet…pour in the savory! Add piping hot coffee and relish in taking a moment to stir in your chocolate and caramel. You can of course leave it to dissolve on its own. But as you add the next few {and cooler} ingredients – you’ll find its the perfect temperature. So if you stir…do it now.
I have a slight obsession with Half & Half. And that is, that I can never have enough. So don’t be afraid of a little “breve” action here. I’m also fond with warming the cream up before adding it to my coffee. But for this drink, add in 1/2-1 ounce to taste.
After building your new coffee concoction – its time to top it with the Cool Whip! Now…I’m quite partial to freezing the cool whip and using cookie cutters for an impromptu marshmallow. But on this glorious day, I yearned for it to crown my coffee complete with caramel syrup. Then as it melts, you’ll lightly sweeten your drink even more.
Still yearning to satisfy your sweet tooth even more? This tastes amazing with 1/2-1 ounce French Vanilla syrup. Or if your really daring? Grab that “dab” measuring spoon and instead of syrup, add in vanilla extract. Just note…the real vanilla extra is preserved with alcohol. So if that is an issue – steer towards the imitation flavoring and check the label.
