Leave it to summer to arrive fashionably late. But you can always count on the Back-To-School season to be right on time. And with that comes my desire to keep everything rolling on task and schedule. Including which healthy snacks my kiddos will be coming home to!
My kids are only 7 and 4. But they’re excited to launch into the next school year. So while I am inundated in getting them everything from new clothes to pencils, it is also important for me to stay on task and on budget.
What is a new school year without celebrating the apples for the teachers and students alike? My kitchen loves applesauce recipes. One of my favorite baking tips is to replace oil with applesauce for breads, muffins, and scones. The recipes come out so much more moist and dense creating a breakfast that will stick with you all morning!
Unfortunately, the school of choice for my oldest doesn’t include a hot lunch menu. Which truthfully is a relief considering the increase in food allergies these days. My youngest is in a preschool that won’t include a main meal either. So another aspect to help our back to school routine, is planning our monthly lunch and snack menu.
September will see us indulging in all the great ways Mott’s® make things easier for us. Hands down my daughter’s go-to snack is string cheese and applesauce. For a cool treat, lightly freeze the applesauce so your kids can shape it. Its also a great Mom solution to replace ice-packs.
Our favorite applesauce to get is the Mott’s® cinnamon variety. This is great to stir into our morning oatmeal or to replace jelly in our go-to almond butter sandwiches. We typically use a gluten free bread, so I love how the applesauce will keep the slices soft.
Traditionally, I don’t know if there is a kid out there that doesn’t love apple juice. Since my kids were itty bitty, there’s been nothing more satisfying for them than snacking on dry cereal. Eating healthy doesn’t need to be elaborate. Toss some golden raisins in, or even some almond slivers if you must. Some days I have to remind myself I made it for the kids.
Last but not least…have some fun with it! Another easy thing to do is make frozen Mott’s® Apple Juice pops. We snip the end off of a elbow straw and place them in to freeze. The end result is a caterpillar effect that you can easily crack loose to self-serve. It can also be great fun around Halloween with black straws and ice molds.
Now, are you ready to start of a new school year with nutritious and delicious snacks from Mott’s® too? What are your favorite ways to get back to school ready while staying on budget?
