Remember last week when I got to dabble with dreams of peanut butter snackation destinations? Well those meandering shopping trips are the daydream now. This week the kids came home. And you can bet, we were ready for adventure.
So the first stop of course, was the peanut butter aisle at Walmart. Not only did it invite great ideas for myself, but the kids got inspired too. And before we could so much as pop the Jif Whips tub in the cart? We had decided to hit the trails with it. And I couldn’t be more thrilled.
The weather is already turning cool and gorgeous. The leaves will begin changing soon. And after all that summer heat, I have the worst wanderlust for hitting the sidewalks and trails. To the point I’m still nursing 5 blisters from last Friday’s glorious journey. Lesson learned and trustier shoes in tow, I couldn’t wait to smell the pines.
Yet this adventure came complete with a sack filled with peanut butter. Namely…the newest obsession in our pantry. The whipped peanut butter and salted caramel Jif Whips tub. Its a dipping dream I tell you. So also packed were crispy plantain chips, pretzels, and bananas. We were set now for our wooded yonder.
Okay…so with two Little’s the “wooded yonder” is really just a fun little mile jaunt and a picnic lunch. But none-the-less, we were excited. Our snackation destination was set. And we were also on the look-out for a wild bunny. How that managed into our plans is still unknown. But we were successful to find one none-the-less.
Thankfully, the bunny also pointed us to a great little meadow for snackation time. We settled in and the kids were all smiles. A 1/4 mile is rough for short little legs. And they were happy for sustenance.
I think they were just impatient for peanut butter and marshmallows. Because yes, there was a surprise stow-away in our snack bag. Of course there were those of us that didn’t want anything but the peanut butter.
I told her no double-dipping. She was therefore thrilled to use all ten fingers. Somehow that wasn’t what I had in mind. But just like that, a perfect snackation stop was born.
Giggles aside, we broke out the pretzels and bananas too. The bunny was long gone but still a highlight in our conversation. And it wasn’t long before the kids were finished and ready to run. And I mean that literally.
Because I barely had time to repack our snack bag and they were off. Apparently the kids remembered the end of the trail ended at a playground. Talk about your proverbial “pot of gold”. And with that, this was officially our favorite new outing.
The best part of playgrounds and wooded trails? That they come with picnic benches and more peanut butter. So with feet propped up, I nibbled {and dipped} a local plantain chip favorite. All while watching the kiddos laugh, jump, and play themselves to exhaustion.
With the kids thrilled to go laugh and play with new friends. I think it goes without saying that “snackwhiches” recipe below will be a lunchbox favorite. Summer really is almost over. But thank goodness for snackations to make up for it. Of which we’ll most certainly be taking more.
