I don’t know about you, but after years of sleep deprivation I’m ready to be healthy for every part of life. And this last summer my youngest turned 4. And with that presented the last shift from babyhood. I got to dump the diaper bag.
Granted, I invested in a baby bag that I could keep for overnight travel after it was done with the toddler needs. Now we were solidly past the potty training. Past the need for on-demand wipes, toys, and shorter attention spans. Over the majority of spills, ills, and mystery chills.
It’s a new dawn when you realize this is one world you don’t have to shoulder anymore. But its still hard to know how to let it go and downsize. So here are a few tips for transcending into clutch-dom.
Start small{er}.
Who doesn’t need a reason for a new bag? That element aside, it was hard to not always feel prepared. So when I traded in my diaper bag, I did so for a single compartment Tote. Otis wasn’t a baby but I still needed to carry wipes, a spare outfit, and trainers. I had one zipper pocket for things like sunscreen, Chapstick, and change. I tossed in my matching wallet and was ready to go.
Vehicle back-up basket.
Then as I didn’t use items, I begin to remove those too. Now they stay in “back-up basket” in the rear of the van. Blankets, spare outfits, and socks stayed at the ready for naps, accidents, or spontaneous sock-required playlands. Snacks and wipes are always a staple. Ironically, tucking away the hand sanitizer was the hardest for me.
Eventually, my small single compartment tote emptied. And it was ready to downsize to the purse life again. And I found it liberating to carry a bag that only supported me.
Just the essentials.
And one of my favorite purse pastimes? Shopping for all my seasonal essentials for the incoming winter weather. Because if toting around that huge diaper bag taught me anything. Its that you make room for the things that matter. So just worry about shouldering those essentials. What’s on my winter must have list this year?
- ChapStick Total Hydration
- Emergen-C Immune+ Chewables
- Advil Tablets and Travel Vial
- Centrum VitaMints
Because I need 100% natural lip care in every pocket. And beyond a penchant for matching wallets, and my phone? You can bet I’ve got Advil tucked away. The original round tablets providing safe, effective pain relief for over 25 years. Not to mention easy to swallow for me with or without water.
I also like keeping easy to take vitamins and immune boosters handy! Because lets face it, kids are germ magnets. Now if you’re like me, its easier to remember to take my vitamins if I keep them in my purse. There are lots of travel sized {childproof containers} in the pharmacy section as well. And these Centrum Vitamints have no chalky taste, just a cool mint flavor.
And my cannot-be-without purse essential? Emergen-C Immune+ Chewables. I love finding great immune support. Because I don’t have time to get sick or forget to take them in the morning. Now are you ready to let your healthy out?
And there you have it. From diaper bag to a Marie Kondo, joy sparking purse essentials. With these few items in tow, I toss in my phone and keys. A front zipper compartment holds receipts and reward cards. I also keep a mini wristlet inside for organizing debit/credit cards, my drivers license and an emergency check. This keeps things easy when the purse must stay in the van.
Now tell me…what is one purse essential you are never without?
