My love for coffee is nothing if not for the dairy that goes with it. But with age its normal to notice our bodies don’t tolerate our favorite foods as much. When coffee became too acidic for me, I switched to cold brew concentrates. And now The a2 Milk Company™ is the milk that might change everything for me again.
I do not have an lactose intolerance. But it’s been suggested that I reduce milk consumption or seek alternatives. So I’m always on the look out for new or improved natural dairy products. And just last week, I was introduced to a2 Milk® and it blew my mind.
So just what is this extraordinary new milk I found? While The a2 Milk Company™ does not produce products that are lactose free; its concept allows many who cannot drink regular milk to do so. And just how? Because as its website FAQ’s states:
The key difference [between a2 Milk® and regular milk] is in the type of cow, because different cows naturally produce milk with different proteins. All ordinary milk has a mixture of A1 and A2 proteins. Yet a2 Milk® only contains the A2 protein and no A1.
Research shows A1 and A2 are digested differently and many people who have issues drinking ordinary milk can easily enjoy milk if they drink a2 Milk®. They tell us it just feels better in their bodies.
I was so excited to try this that I drove 45 minutes to The Fresh Market in Toledo, OH to pick it up. While I was reassured it will be stocked in local stores, I wasn’t waiting. And I’m so glad I didn’t! Not only is it great, but they had it on sale this week from $4.49 to $1.99! Did I mention there is a $1 manufacturer’s coupon for a2 Milk® right now as well?
Meaning this coffee lovin’ Momma had enough funds left over to also pick up a Mocha cold-brewed coffee concentrate as well. Lets just say decorating for the holidays gets a whole lot sweeter when you do it holding a Peppermint Mocha Latte. And with the crazy days ahead, its great to know I have a fast easy option for staying brilliantly caffeinated.
Are you ready to see just how easy this holiday iced latte is? For starters, if you’re the sort to need an “ice cube”, skip watering down your latte and freeze the a2 Milk® into cubes to keep cool. It also works great to bring piping hot coffee down to the perfect temp as a creamer. And since this will melt, you only need to fill your glass with 3-4 milk cubes.
Next, you’re ready to dole out the appropriate amount of cold-brewed coffee concentrate. As I briefly mentioned above, this cold-brew process produces a smoother coffee with less of a bitter or acidic body. It’s also how I prefer intensifying flavored coffee as well.
Overall, I always want to cut the sugar content of my lattes. So the coffee concentrate brings my Mocha flavored essence. And I will use a 1-2 drops of Peppermint Oil to bring this latte into season. No need for heavy syrups or chocolate sauce here. What I love the most about this recipe, is that I can enjoy my favorite latte without the sugar crash or upset belly later.
And now, the star of the latte show…my a2 Milk®! Since we drink milk in moderation anyhow, I always use whole milk. But for those that are interested, Fat-Free and Reduced Fat varieties are also available. I also want to highlight, while its not organic, The a2 Milk Company™ guarantees that their milk is free of hormones and antibiotics.
Needless to say…pour it in to a level according to taste. And then give it a stir and get sipping! As you can probably notice, I was elated at the taste and happy belly afterwards. So if you’re in for trying this awesomeness, I’d love to hear what you have to think about it!
