Spring is here and Easter is just around the corner! And I don’t know about you, but the this holiday aren’t quite fully realized until we open that basket of seasonal candies. So you can bet I hopped right over to Walmart to get a jump start on a sweeter Easter!
And one particular favorite that every “bunny” loves? The M&M’s® Easter Sundae candy! Only available for a limited time (and exclusive to Walmart), it’s one of the reason we know it’s a one-stop-shop for all our easter basket needs.
But Easter isn’t only for the kids. And this year, I wanted to make a special basket. One that brought a bit more depth to the meaning of Easter and the celebration of life. So come along with me as we transform a boxed memorial wreath into a poignant gift. An Easter Basket that anyone will treasure remembering loved ones this holiday season.
Seasonal candy used in this project:
- 8oz M&M’s® Easter Sundae
- 12oz Starburst® Strawberry Jellybeans
- 12oz DOVE® Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny
- 11oz M&M’s® Easter Tri Packs
- 4.5oz DOVE® Solid Milk Chocolate Bunny
- 11oz Easter M&M’s® Milk Chocolate
- Skittles® $1 egg
Supplies used in this project:
- Memorial Wreath
- Easter Grass
- Easter Eggs
- LED Candles
- Votive Candles
- Coffee
- Mugs
- Glue Dots
- Glue Gun
- Shrink Wrap Gift Bag
- Bow
- Hairdryer
To begin, I found this great ready-made memorial wreath while shopping for my Easter candy. Many times, you only need a few seasonal extras hot glued in to make it more transitional to gifting or keeping for home use. So I started by stuffing 3 bags crinkled paper Easter grass in and around the wreath.
Next, I broke out the hot glue gun and my chosen plastic Easter eggs. For such a vibrant colored wreath, I chose metallic eggs to coordinate.
Ooze a small amount of glue along the crease to prevent opening and stick the plastic eggs throughout. I saved the gold egg however to showcase a personalized touch. It will be left open to show the prize inside.
Made to easily fit inside plastic eggs, the M&M’s® Easter Tri Packs peek out perfectly in this opened egg. I used my glue dots to affix the the M&M’s® candy inside firmly, then hot glued it into the center of a wreath bow. And now, you have yourself a giftable Easter themed wreath.
Now, since we’re turning this box into a basket, let’s fill it up! As the theme is both remembrance and comfort, there will be chocolate to soothe the soul. And DOVE® Solid Milk Chocolate Bunnies come in a variety of Easterlicious sizes to comfort all.
There will also be coffee and the cups to sit and share it with. I tucked in two mugs filled with M&M’s® Easter Tri Packs. Then used glue dots to keep a favorite coffee blend uniform as that was folded into the wreath box too.
Bags of M&M’s® Milk Chocolate and Starburst® Jellybeans were included along the edges and our simple box was beginning to look like an Easter basket.
Next up I filled the center with the small DOVE® Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny and the M&M’s® Easter Sundae candy. Also placed in the middle, two LED votive candles. This gives a tender option for leaving lit with the wreath at a graveside.
I also tucked in a few standard candles to light at home. A fitting end to a day with filled with loving thoughts, coffee, chocolate, and comforting scents of vanilla and hazelnut cream.
I made sure at this point to tuck in more seasonal trinkets like these carrot eggs filled with M&M’s® Easter Tri Packs. The large, 12oz DOVE® Solid Milk Chocolate Bunny crowned the back. And a big Skittles® $1 egg filled the last little hole in our wreath box making it a bonafide Easter Basket. Other great options to keep our candy theme are the 23.5oz Easter Mixed Brand Chocolates (package includes SNICKERS®, DOVE®, M&M’s®, TWIX®, MILKY WAY®, 3 Musketeers®), Hubba Bubba® $1 Bubble Tape and/or the Skittles® $1 tube.
Now it was ready for shrinkwrap! Admittedly, this bag wasn’t big enough. But if you’re ever in the same situation, use scissors and cut to fit while taping the odd ends on the bottom. Once heated, nobody will ever know the difference!
Now simply stick with a bow, and your Easter Basket is ready for gifting. This a great way to give a unique gift of thoughtfulness and love this holiday season. Where we celebrate not just the birth of Christ; but also those loved ones here now and waiting for us in the hereafter.
Blessed be to you and yours this Easter weekend. And do tell me, would this DIY Easter Basket be one that you’d make or gift to someone?
