I love doing laundry. Simply put, while I may let out the momentary sigh over its relentless consistency…there is no where else I’d rather hide my chocolate. And if actions create memories, let my kiddos remember pulling on hot sweaters warmed up on cool school morning. And of coming home to the scented memories that will take them back to days filled with snuggle up moments.
Case in point, today my oldest came home from school and breathed in deep. Instantly smiling as the scents of Snuggle® Ultra Blue Sparkle fabric conditioner and Blue Iris Bliss® Snuggle Scent Boosters® filled her nose. Today was clean-sheet-day, a favorite in our home. It was also a day for purging our stored clothing, and readying donations for charity.
And while every year sees spring cleaning donations, this year is different. This year, I’m going to go through all the baby clothes I’ve kept in storage. It’s not like every article of clothing from two kids and 8 years is there. But without a basement or storage unit, I’m faced daily with towers of totes that could certainly go to bringing others joy.
The hefty challenge aside, I was ready to begin and cracked open the first tote. But it wasn’t the tiny clothes that brought the swiftest memories back. It was the softest scent of laundry soap wafting up at me from years past.
And there I was…holding up blankets that held my babies and smiling at onsies that my kids had long outgrown. But it was breathing in deep that brought back the strongest memories. More vivid than a picture, I was transported back to days of diapers, swaddled smiles, and quiet midnight feedings.
Of course I kept some things. Like favorite blankets and treasured holiday outfits. But the rest were tossed into the washer, and with that, given a new memory. One promising ulta blue sparkle softness for the next 30 days and boosted with Blue Iris Bliss®. I love thinking these items would stay fresh while they find a new home.
And talk about how make a Snifference™ in letting things go! It was actually great to see these wonderful items moving on. And layered together, these two Snuggle® favorites provides the ultimate snugglable scent. Plus the added savings from Sam’s Club this month to stock up means I can certainly afford to treat these clothes as well as I always have.
So let’s just say, we pink-puffy-heart ourselves some Snuggle®. And I absolutely love all the extra space I’ve found in my laundry room! Have you kept clothing stored as well? If you’re ready to face the challenge too, here’s some things I’ve learned to make the process easier.
What to keep:
The best advice I received came from a family member. She keeps only 5 articles of clothing. She then allowed her children to keep 5 items as well. When something must be saved, another with its fading memory is removed. It keeps things saved relevant, and the process purposeful. I have to admit, I rounded 8 totes of blankets and clothing down to 2, one for each child.
What to sell:
If you have the time, the sky’s the limit! Many sell used clothing with yard and garage sales, Mom2Mom sales, or with online ads. Personally, I use consignment or resale shops. And with three local options, I visit each one. Just because one wasn’t needed at one location, doesn’t mean the next store won’t buy it. And netting 30% of their purchase price, means I make far more than an average garage sale. Plus, if you want to know the golden egg of return value at resale stores? It’s nice items made of denim, dress shoes, holiday outfits, and multifunctional outwear.
What to donate:
Theoretically, it can all be bagged up and sent to homes that have children in need. But pay special attention to look for and discard moldy or stained items. For us, despite being in sealed totes, many items I stored had moisture stains. Such things won’t sell, and are only discarded by the charity.
Overall, I’m happy to have made more space in our home. I’m looking at empty totes now that can be reused in other ways. Not to mention the kids rooms that are ready to create new scented memories. So I can’t help but wonder, how our favorite Snuggle® laundry products today, will shape our memories to be recalled in the future. I can definitely say, I’m looking forward to it with Snuggle® when they do.

A lot of these tips could be applied to an adult’s wardrobe for Spring organizing! I know I have a hard time sorting through the closet this time of year- thanks for the great tips! #client
