In a world of boys, Wonder Woman was my super hero. One of my favorite memories was when I was 5 years old and I raced out into the living room dressed in my Wonder Woman Underoos. All ready to conquer the injustice of eating vegetables and early bedtimes.

Now imagine the smile on my face when I opened up this fun filled movie swag kit with great Orville Redenbacher’s® & Dr Pepper® goodies! Because the one thing I love about movie nights, is how they bring family and friends together. Wonder Woman is more than a summer blockbuster or superhero to celebrate. The new film represents this exciting time in our culture where women are being empowered. Strong women are being celebrated! And even Wonder Woman herself is evolving with the times.
Wonder Woman fans (like myself) realize that, and love having a reason to connect to it. I was even inspired to change up my vintage popcorn ball recipe by adding in the unique taste of Dr Pepper®. The original recipe was passed down by my grandmother (a strong woman herself), I love getting to make this kitchen treat. While you could prep the popcorn in a large pot, it gets so much easier with the Orville Redenbacher’s® Pop Up Bowl microwavable popcorn bags.
Which I prepare 2 Pop Up Bowl bags at 1:50 minutes each, on high in the microwave. Then I transfer both bags of popcorn to a bowl while removing any unpopped kernels. Set aside the bowl when finished. As this is progressing, I begin to boil down the popcorn ball mixture.
Cooking over a medium heat, pour in the following:
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 can (7.5oz) of Dr Pepper®
- ⅓ cup Light corn syrup
- ¼ cup salted butter
Now you’ll gently boil this down until it reaches 260-270° degrees on a candy thermometer. No thermometer? Then grab a cup of ice-cold tap water and drizzle a bit of the boiled down syrup into the water. Feel the consistency it will thread into. That will be an example of what your popcorn ball will harden like.
At your desired temperature, remove the popcorn ball syrup. If you prefer the option, this is when you would gently stir in 1 tsp of vanilla for added flavor. Pour this over your fresh popcorn. Stir with a spatula or buttered spoon. Lay out a long piece of waxed parchment.
When popcorn is completely coated in this syrup, you’re ready to make your popcorn balls.
WARNING: This popcorn ball syrup is VERY HOT and sticky. For this reason, I only recommend using an ice cream scoop, large spoon, or popcorn ball maker to form the popcorn balls. Remember this…homemade isn’t awesome because it looks perfect.
Once you’ve formed the popcorn balls. Set them aside to cool. All that remains is to gather your friends and family for an incredible popcorn ball infused movie night!
So what do you say? Are you ready to be inspired by Wonder Woman too? Then make sure to stock up at Kroger and let me know what Orville Redenbacher’s® flavor you love most. Plus, take a minute while you’re sipping that cold Dr Pepper® and enter this great contest about Who’s The Hero In Your Life!
